Introduction

England are playing South Africa in a football friendly at Durban's Absa stadium on May 22nd 2003.

Sounded like a good excuse to explore a continent I know very little about so I've booked a flight into Cape Town on 12th May, and another out of Nairobi on 7th August. The bit in between is a tad vague (to be honest I haven't really planned this). I'll miss Derby's pre-season which is unfortunate, but I should be back in time for the first game of the season on 9th August.

I'll hopefully fatten up this diary as I go along so check back once in a while for new stuff.

The Diary

Tue May 13 2003 (Cape Town)
Wed May 14 2003 (Cape Town)
Thu May 15 2003 (Cape Town)

Just the photos and videos (unedited, some of these will probably be removed)

Current plans as at Mon Jun 02. I'm a bit behind with the diary so I'll just quickly update here what I'm planning next. Note that this could easily change. Tomorrow morning I'm catching the bus from Pretoria to Gaborone in Botswana (8 hours!). On Wednesday I hope to get a bus part way across the Kalahari to Ghanzi (another 8 hours), and then on Thursday I'll hopefully make it up to Maun. From there I'll find somewhere to stay in the Okavango Delta (swamps and hippos!) for a few days and hope to spend a few days on a Mokoro with a guide (a Mokoro is a dugout canoe that is propelled by a long pole). After that up to Kasane in the far North of Botswana and hopefully spend a day in the Chobe national park where they have around 60,000 elephants. Then I cross into Zambia, and that bit isn't planned at all yet.

***NOTE: I accidentally deleted a bunch of email on May 26th that included some unread messages going back as far as May 12th. These included messages from Daniel Wu and David Willem, but also others. If you sent me email during this period, please re-send. Ta.
